John's Gospel
A Discipleship Journey with Jesus
|
The Gospel written by the Beloved Disciple
St. Augustine once said about the Gospel of John, that, "It is shallow enough for a child not to drown, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim in it."
John contains the Bible's favorite verse -- John 3:16. John's themes are essential to our understanding of Jesus as Son of God and Messiah. Here we learn about the Holy Spirit, the Counselor who lives within us to guide and empower us. We learn about the Father's love and eternal life.
Some of the most beloved stories of Jesus' ministry are found only in the Fourth Gospel -- changing the water into wine, the woman at the well, the woman taken in adultery, raising Lazarus, washing the disciples' feet, and many more. In John's Gospel you find Jesus as the Bread of Life; the Light of the World; the Good Shepherd; the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
John's Gospel is lengthy -- 21 chapters, but rich and deep. This study of the Gospel consists a 34-lesson study of John, totaling 459 pages in the paperback edition. The study's helpful thought and discussion questions make it useful for personal enrichment and by small groups and classes. Extensive research contained in the footnotes makes it a goldmine for teachers and a boon to preachers involved in sermon preparation.
Here is an abbreviated table of contents for the books:

"I plan on using it as a basis to teach John's Gospel to my seniors in a retirement home." -- Andrea Paterson "A very in-depth study and challenging for all students." -- Beverly Davis "Very detailed and easy to follow. The English is understandable for second language users." -- Brother Martin Chivige, SC "I love how the scriptures are broken down and explained. The questions make you really think." -- C. Johnson "I appreciate the careful exposition of the Greek text in important passages. The presentation is always clear, insightful and not overly long. It is a wonderful sources of spiritual insight and wisdom regardless of how long one has been a Christian." -- Dave Wilson "Worthwhile, broad, insightful, solid." -- David Brinker "In-depth enough for the serious student." -- David Curry "Clear and precise." -- Don Collar "A major resource for me to teach the Gospel of John." -- George French "One of the best studies of the Gospel of John that I have completed in almost 50 years as an ordained minister. With the use of geography, historical facts, and cultural settings, you glean a proper background for exploration into the truth contained in scripture with careful and thoughtful interpretation." -- Rev. Harvey Carr "Magnificent and thorough in its presentation." -- James Nuckles "The well-written questions caused me to "dig" into the Word, which brought fresh revelation of things I 'thought I knew' or had forgotten." -- Janice Mozley "Thorough, exact, compelling, and spiritual." -- Jesse Porter "Very well researched, planned, and easily understood even by laymen. Good theological explanation of concepts." -- Julia Williams "I am using it to teach my Sunday school class." -- Kevin Curtiss "The old and familiar verses take on a deeper meaning." -- Mary Vaughn "I utilize these outlines when I prepare my high school Sunday School classes" -- Michael Danielek "In-depth without being ponderous." -- Nancy Fergusson "Used to teach our Wednesday Bible study and my folks love them." -- Sam Thomason "Simple yet profound." -- Terr Fredericks |
