Sometimes the Lord's Supper can seem
boring, repetitious, or practically meaningless, providing
a merely sentimental anchor to your tradition. But communion, or Eucharist or Mass, as some call it, should be more than a
formal ritual. It should be invested with great meaning for you and me.
This book provides meditations on a dozen of the rich themes that underlie the Lord's Supper.
This isn't a doctrinal study in the sense of dogmatic
propositions to believe. However, since "doctrine" really means
"teaching," the book will instruct you in
what the Scriptures themselves teach. While the author
shares his own interpretations, he considers alternative
understandings respectfully.
The goal of the book is to so illuminate the rich themes
of communion so that the next time -- or 100 times -- you serve
or partake of the Lord's Supper, you'll recall with joy and love what it really means.
Lord's Supper: Meditations for Disciples provides a spiritual adventure, not unlike scuba diving. Communion,
as you are aware, is not a fixed doctrine, but
a wonderful and holy mystery into
which we immerse ourselves, as we explore and probe its depths.
