When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he returned to Galilee.

READER 2

Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake --

READER 3

The Sea of Galilee

READER 2

-- in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali

READER 3

to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

READER 1

"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way to the sea, along the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles --

READER 3

Galilee where the Gentiles live

READER 2

The people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned."

Darkness

Light

READER 1

Darkness has been dispelled the light!

READER 2

Gentile darkness has been banished by the light of the Messiah!

READER 1

Death is vanquished!

READER 2

A new light has dawned!

READER 3

From that time on Jesus began to preach,

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

"for the kingdom of heaven is near."

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,

Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew.

They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

READER 1

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

READER 2

At once they left their nets and followed him.

READER 1

Your livelihood has been catching fish

READER 2

Your joy will now be to net men for God

READER 3

I will make you fishers of men.

READER 1

Going on from there, Jesus saw two other brothers,

READER 2

James son of Zebedee and his brother John.

READER 3

They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.

READER 1

Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

READER 2

Come, follow me.

READER 3

At once they leave their nets and follow him

Jesus called,

READER 3

They followed immediately.

READER 1

The Master went throughout Galilee,

READER 2

teaching in their synagogues,

READER 3

preaching the good news of the kingdom,

READER 1

and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

READER 2

The people living in darkness have seen a great light;
