Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, |
READER 2 |
and his disciples followed him. |
READER 3 |
and his disciples followed him. |
READER 1 |
On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." |

Pray |
READER 3 |
Pray |
READER 2 |
Pray |
READER 1 |
That you will not enter into temptation." |
READER 2 |
That temptation will not sway you, |
READER 3 |
That temptation will not entice you, |
READER 2 |
That you will not enter into it. |
READER 1 |
Jesus withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, |
READER 2 |
He knelt down. |
READER 3 |
He prayed. |
READER 1 |
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." |
READER 2 |
Father |
READER 3 |
My Father |
READER 2 |
Father, how comforting it is to call you "Father" when all is crashing down around me. |
READER 1 |
Take this cup from me. |
READER 2 |
Take this mission, this task, from me. |
READER 3 |
Take the specter of the cross from me. |
READER 1 |
The pain |
READER 2 |
The loneliness |
READER 3 |
The spiritual burden |
READER 2 |
The desolation |
READER 3 |
Take this cup from me. |
READER 1 |
If it's possible |
READER 2 |
If you can find it in your plan |
READER 3 |
If you're willing |
READER 1 |
Not my will |
READER 2 |
But yours |
READER 1 |
Not my revulsion from what I see before me |
READER 3 |
But your will for my life |
READER 1 |
Not my will |
READER 2 |
But yours be done |
READER 1 |
An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. |
READER 2 |
An angel |
READER 3 |
An angel from heaven |
READER 1 |
Appeared to him |
READER 2 |
Strengthened him in his intense spiritual struggle. |
READER 1 |
And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, |
READER 2 |
Anguish! |
READER 3 |
Prayer! |
READER 1 |
And his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. |
READER 2 |
Sweat poured off him as he labored in prayer. |
READER 3 |
Anguish. |
READER 2 |
Prayer. |
READER 1 |
When he rose from prayer |
READER 2 |
And went back to the disciples, |
READER 3 |
He found them asleep, |
READER 1 |
Exhausted from sorrow. |
READER 2 |
Worn down by sorrow. |
READER 3 |
Wiped out. |
READER 1 |
"Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. |
READER 2 |
Don't sleep! |
READER 3 |
"Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation." |
READER 1 |
Arise |
READER 2 |
Pray |
READER 3 |
That you will not enter into temptation. |
