Luke 12:42-48 - Wise Head Servants
by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson
This Readers Theater was originally prepared for use with my congregation. You have my permission to print out a single copy for each reader and use this reading at the dinner table to begin a family discussion, in your small group, in a worship service, or for any other appropriate use. Mark parts with a highlighter to avoid confusion.

READER 1

Who then is the faithful and wise manager?

READER 2

The house steward?

READER 3

The head servant?

READER 1

The servant over the other servants?

READER 2

Is he faithful?

READER 3

Is he wise?

READER 1

Who is he?

READER 2

Or she?

READER 3

Could it be you?

READER 1

Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?

READER 2

The master puts him in charge

READER 3

The master appoints him

READER 1

To give the other servants their food

READER 2

At the proper time.

READER 3

Regularly.

READER 2

Faithfully.

READER 3

Without fail.

READER 1

It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.

READER 2

Good for him.

READER 3

Good for her.

READER 1

I tell you the truth, the master will put him in charge of all his possessions.

READER 2

In charge of his whole estate.

READER 3

His inheritance.

READER 2

His kingdom.

READER 1

But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,'

READER 2

and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants

READER 3

and to eat and drink and get drunk.

READER 2

and to eat and drink

READER 3

to become soft with luxury

READER 2

to eat and drink

READER 3

and get drunk.

READER 1

Bombed.

READER 2

Intoxicated rather than alert.

READER 3

Blurred in mind rather than spiritually awake.

READER 1

Intoxicated by drink.

READER 2

Intoxicated by luxury.

READER 3

Intoxicated by self-indulgence.

READER 1

The master of that servant will come

READER 2

He will come on a day when the servant does not expect him

READER 3

and at an hour he is not aware of.

READER 1

The master will cut him to pieces

READER 2

and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

READER 1

Punishment

READER 2

Severe punishment

READER 3

And exclusion from the presence of the Lord

READER 2

with the unbelievers

READER 3

with the faithless

READER 2

Punished

READER 3

Excluded

READER 1

That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready

READER 2

or does not do what his master wants

READER 3

will be beaten with many blows.

READER 1

But the one who does not know

READER 2

and does things deserving punishment

READER 3

will be beaten with few blows.

READER 1

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded;

READER 2

and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

READER 1

From everyone who has been given much,

READER 2

much will be demanded;

READER 1

and from the one who has been entrusted with much,

READER 2

much more will be asked.

READER 1

I have been given a lot

READER 2

I have been given much

READER 3

My Lord expects much from me

READER 2

And entrusts me with his riches.

READER 3

Much has been given

READER 2

A great deal

ALL

Much is expected.
