Verses with the Word "Store*"

Part of a study on the Sermon on the Mount

See how the word is used. Mark the verses with a plus sign (+) where the word is used with a positive connotation, and mark with a minus sign (-) where the word is used with a negative connotation. Leave unmarked the other verses. Which seems to predominate? Is storing a good thing, in general? Why or why not?


You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them." Genesis 6:21

They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food. Genesis 41:35

Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure. Genesis 41:48-49

When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. Genesis 41:56

So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. Exodus 1:11

At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year's produce and store it in your towns, Deut. 14:28

The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. Deut. 28:12

as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses -- whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled. 1 Kings 9:19

Hezekiah received the messengers and showed them all that was in his storehouses -- the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine oil -- his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them. 2 Kings 20:13

The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 2 Kings 20:17

The lot for the South Gate fell to Obed-Edom, and the lot for the storehouse fell to his sons. 1 Chron. 26:15

There were six Levites a day on the east, four a day on the north, four a day on the south and two at a time at the storehouse. 1 Chron. 26:17

Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the outlying districts, in the towns, the villages and the watchtowers. 1 Chron. 27:25

Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper parts, its inner rooms and the place of atonement. 1 Chron. 28:11

He also built up Tadmor in the desert and all the store cities he had built in Hamath. 2 Chron. 8:4

as well as Baalath and all his store cities, and all the cities for his chariots and for his horses -- whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled. 2 Chron. 8:6

Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim and all the store cities of Naphtali. 2 Chron. 16:4

Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah 2 Chron. 17:12

Hezekiah gave orders to prepare storerooms in the temple of the Lord, and this was done. 2 Chron. 31:11

He also made buildings to store the harvest of grain, new wine and oil; and he made stalls for various kinds of cattle, and pens for the flocks. 2 Chron. 32:28

King Darius then issued an order, and they searched in the archives stored in the treasury at Babylon. Ezra 6:1

"Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work. A priest descended from Aaron is to accompany the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of the tithes up to the house of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury. The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and oil to the storerooms where the articles for the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the singers stay. "We will not neglect the house of our God." Neh. 10:37-39

Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the gates. Neh. 12:25

At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites. Neh. 12:44

Before this, Eliashib the priest had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God. He was closely associated with Tobiah, and he had provided him with a large room formerly used to store the grain offerings and incense and temple articles, and also the tithes of grain, new wine and oil prescribed for the Levites, singers and gatekeepers, as well as the contributions for the priests. Neh. 13:4-5

All Judah brought the tithes of grain, new wine and oil into the storerooms. I put Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and a Levite named Pedaiah in charge of the storerooms and made Hanan son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, their assistant, because these men were considered trustworthy. They were made responsible for distributing the supplies to their brothers. Neh. 13:12-13

All his days the wicked man suffers torment,
the ruthless through all the years stored up for him. Job 15:20

It is said, 'God stores up a man's punishment for his sons.'
Let him repay the man himself, so that he will know it! Job 21:19

He carries out his decree against me,
and many such plans he still has in store. Job 23:14

He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. Isaiah 33:6

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. Matthew 12:35

He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old." Matthew 13:52

He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods...
"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." Luke 12:17-21

Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Luke 12:24

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Cor. 9:10

The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel Col. 1:5

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day -- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Tim. 4:8
